Katya Grineva - A piano recital dedicated to "The Five Elements"
Katya Grineva is a pianist with exceptional romantic and poetic expression. Born in Moscow, Ms. Grineva began studying music at the age of six, progressing to the Moscow Music School under the
aegis of the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, with Professor Pavel Messner.
Katya moved to New York as a teenager and was awarded a scholarship to the Mannes School of Music graduate program, where she was tutored by Nina Svetlanova, continuing her studies with private coaching from Vladja Mashke.
Her American debut was in 1993 with a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto, No. 27 in B-flat, K. 595 with the Baltimore Symphony. May 1998 she made her first appearance at Carnegie Hall and has since become the only female solo pianist to play Carnegie Hall Isaac Stern Auditorium a record eleven performances. In 1998 Steinway and Sons awarded her the honorable title of Steinway Artist.
In 2005, she played Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 as a guest artist with the Guayaquil Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall. In 2006 she was chosen to exclusively perform and record the world premieres of piano sonatas by Viennese composer Marcel Tyberg. In 2008, she was awarded the Gusi Peace Prize. Katya Grineva will be on an Asia/Pacific tour later this year and will return to Hong Kong on June 17th at the Cultural Centre Concert Hall with a completely different program including the Asia premiere of two of Marcel Tybergs compositions.
