The South Pole: Terrifyingly Alien, Magnificent and Merciless
In May 2007, two helicopter pilots, Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill, set a new world-record, becoming the first pilots to fly around the world via the South and North Poles. Join Murray as she talks about and presents slides of their epic and courageous five-and-a-half-month journey over 25 countries, flying more than 33,000 nautical miles. Almost a century before Murray's flight to the Poles, Robert Falcon Scott led a doomed Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica in a race against the Norwegians to reach the South Pole. In his book, Death on the Ice, Robert Ryan traces the paths which led the explorers to their deaths, bringing them to life and without judgement, letting them tell heir own stories.
